The state of Ohio has accepted a petition to form a minor party, officially recognizing the Libertarian Party of Ohio as a new political party under state law.

To be valid, the petition must contain signatures from more than 1% of the total number of voters in the last gubernatorial election and at least 500 signatures in at least half of Ohio’s 15 precincts.

In a press release, Dustin Nanna, chairman of the Libertarian Party of Ohio, said more than 87,000 people across every Ohio county signed the petition to officially establish the party.

“We are here today to send a message to the majority of ignored and frustrated voters in Ohio who see their freedoms trampled on every day. You have another option,” Nanna said.

Nanna further said that the party will submit a full list of ‘Freedom’ candidates ‘at all levels’ in the coming days.
