Pawan Kalyan urges NCRC to conduct scientific study on coastal erosion at Uppada

On Wednesday, July 3, Deputy Chief Minister K Pawan Kalyan appealed to the National Centre for Coastal Research (NCRC) to conduct a scientific study on the causes of erosion on the Uppada coast and measures needed to protect the land inhabited by fishermen in eight villages in Kakinada district.

In the run-up to the general elections, Mr. Pawan Kalyan had promised to address the issue of coastal erosion.

Mr. Pawan Kalyan and NCRC experts conducted a field survey. The Uppada coast had lost 1,360 acres of land in the past decade, according to the Department of Survey. Residents of eight fishing villages had lost their houses and tree cover due to erosion.

Mr. Pawan Kalyan also spoke to the fishermen who had left the coast and rebuilt their houses nearby.

Later, while talking to the officials concerned, Mr. Pawan Kalyan asked them to explore the possibility of rehabilitating the fishermen of the affected coastline.

The geo-tube built along the coast in recent years has not been able to prevent erosion. Kakinada District Collector Shan Mohan Sagili and other officials were present.
