Collaborative strategy between government and Horta city council ensures ambitious future for the municipality, says José Manuel Bolieiro – Communication

Presidency of the Regional Governor

The President of the Regional Government, José Manuel Bolieiro, accompanied by the Regional Secretary for Tourism, Mobility and Infrastructure, Berta Cabral, led the opening of the urban redevelopment of the Horta promenade, an example of “understanding” between the Government and the local authorities, in this case the municipality of the island of Faial.

“This project is an example of understanding, that what we are opening here today has made a reality. We are doing together what probably would not have been possible if we had not done it separately,” recalls José Manuel Bolieiro.

He added: “First of all, we must serve our people, our territories, our islands, our municipalities and all our parishes: the entire territory of the Azores. No one must be left behind.

The project represented a total investment of more than three million euros and generated a financial contribution from the government of almost one million euros, corresponding to 50% of the non-co-financed investment.

“The future of Horta is more ambitious than its history. With this strategy and this division, we will have a future in the development of tourism on the island of Faial. We will have an optimistic future with the capacity to host global events,” said the President of the Government.

Thanks to this “collaboration strategy” between the regional government and the municipality of Horta, a new intervention on the coast will soon take place, separate from the work already carried out. This will be carried out in synergy with this one and will concern the building of the Northern Marina.

“We celebrate the most Atlantic and Western European city. The Atlanticism of Europe has given it a future in its history. “It will secure a future in the coming times and for new generations,” said the President of the Government.

This week Horta celebrates the 191st anniversary of its elevation to city status.
